Born in Tamslout, near Marrakech, Abdelaati was apprenticed to a weaver when he was seven years old. Working with many teachers on different techniques over eighteen years, he opened his own workshop in 1980. He and his son have three large looms and one smaller one but can organize large-scale orders with help from other weavers in Tamslout. Most of the production is throws, scarves and curtains but he is able to execute custom designs.
